If you experience the following problems – the extruder does not function properly and it makes unusual noises while moving along the axes or if relocated layers appear on your model, the axes in your printer need some maintenance work. This manual provides instructions on the axes maintenance. Keep in mind that you do not have to follow all the steps at once.

Unplugging the Power Cable

Unplug the power cable.

Belts Maintenance

Your printer will work properly if the X and Y axes belts are tense. There are short belts and long belts in your printer. Check if neither of them is loose. Tug each belt gently to check its tension.

Loosening the Motor Screws

Loosen the four screws securing the motor using a 2,5mm Allen key.

Tensioning the Short Belts

Press down the motor by hand to tense up the belt. Tighten the screws while the motor is still being pressed down.

Tensioning the Long Belts

Move the extruder to the center position. Tighten the screws on the axis block using a 1,5mm Allen key.

X/Y Axis Motor Pulleys Maintenance

If the motor is running but the belt does not move on the motor pulley, the screws on the pulley need tightening.

Unplugging the Motor Cable

Unplug the motor cable.

Unscrewing the Axis Motor

Unscrew the four screws securing the motor using a 2,5mm Allen key.

Axis Motor Removal

Take out the distance piece and remove the motor.

Tightening the Screws on the Motor Pulley

Tighten the screws on the motor pulley using a 2mm Allen key.

Axis Motor Assembly part 1

Put the belt on the new motor pulley and install it with the distance piece.

Axis Motor Assembly part 2

Secure the motor with the screws using a 2,5mm Allen key.

Screwing the Axis Motor

Press down the motor by hand to tense up the belt. Tighten the screws while the motor is still being pressed down.

Axes Pulleys Maintenance

There are 8 drive pulleys next to long belts with two screws on each pulley. Tighten each screw (16 times altogether) on every drive pulley.

If you have any troubles reaching the screw on a given pulley, move the extruder so that the pulley rotates in a given direction.

Lubricating the Axes

Regular lubrication is important to reduce the bearings friction and extend their life span.

Use service grease to lubricate linear guides on  the X and Y axes. Apply a thin layer of grease on each guide.

Remember to lubricate the Z axis guides as well.

Z-axis ball screw should not be lubricated.
Only trapezoidal screw in HW2 can be lubricated.

Plugging the Power Cable

Plug the power cable in.
